This work secret didn’t change everything, but it was very interesting to the young women in our office. One of the people who had been keeping the secret, the young woman, told all of us one morning. She had been engaged to her boss for at least a year. We all knew she was engaged. She had a huge rock on her left hand. She had decided to tell us that her fiance had the same first name as her boss. This way she’d never accidentally slip up and say the wrong name. She told us that the reason they wanted to keep it secret was that people would be watching them more if they knew their every movement would be scrutinized. He was about 13 years older than she was. We’d never suspected anything. It was very exciting. She retired after they married and eventually gave birth to a little boy who came to visit the office and was very smart and cute. When I was 9 years old we had it at my Aunt Shari’s house. It was quite crowded when we gathered around the tree for presents. Right before we started my mother’s youngest sibling, my godfather, announced he had a surprise for me. He made me cover my eyes and he led me behind the couch. When I opened my eyes there was one of those radio flyer sleds that you could steer with a giant red bow. I squealed and gave my Uncle the biggest hug ever.

I ended up sitting on the sled during the rest of the present opening. Then there was the year I lived on my Aunt and Uncles farm. Not my godfather, a different uncle. I was 13 and we all gathered around the tree on Christmas Eve and exchanged gifts. After we were done, I was quite happy. I had been given a karaoke machine, the first 4 harry potter books, and a horse purse my cousin had made me. Along with a couple other things I don’t remember. I thought we were done until one of my cousin pulled a kitchen chair into the room and told me to sit and close my eyes. I felt a box get put at my feet and was told to open my eyes. They told me to be careful and not shake it. I cautiously opened the box and gasped in surprise. Inside was a holland lop bunny rabbit. I started crying as I picked him up. I thanked my aunt and uncle while sobbing my little heart out. I was so happy and grateful.
